What is tankless water heater installation?

A tankless water heater heats water as it flows instead of keeping forty or fifty gallons hot around the clock. Turn on a shower and a burner fires for exactly as long as you need it. Nothing is stored, so nothing sits there losing heat or waiting to rupture on your garage floor.

The trade-off is that a tankless unit needs more gas at the moment it fires than a tank does. That is why a proper conversion is more than hanging a box on the wall. Most Los Angeles County homes need a larger gas line run from the meter, a new stainless or PVC vent path to the exterior, and a condensate drain for high-efficiency models.

Sizing matters just as much. A unit rated for a small condo will not carry two showers and a dishwasher in a four-bedroom house, and you will feel it as a cold sandwich mid-shower. We size on your fixture count, your incoming water temperature, and how your family actually uses hot water.

Done right, you get unlimited hot water, roughly a wall cabinet's worth of reclaimed space, and a unit that commonly runs fifteen to twenty years with an annual flush. Done wrong, you get error codes. We pull permits and install to manufacturer spec so the warranty holds.

How does it work?

  1. 1

    Site survey and sizing

We count fixtures, check gas meter capacity, measure the existing line, and look at vent routing. You get a real recommendation, indoor or outdoor, with a flow rate that fits the house.

  2. 2

    Gas, water, and venting prep

The gas line is upsized where needed, isolation valves and a sediment trap are installed, and the vent is run to the exterior with proper clearances. High-efficiency units get a condensate drain and neutralizer.

  3. 3

    Mount, connect, and commission

The unit is mounted, connected, purged of air, and fired. We set the temperature, verify combustion and gas pressure under load, and check for leaks at every joint.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and maintenance plan

You get shown the isolation valves, the flush procedure, and the error codes that matter. Permits and paperwork are handled, and we schedule the first descaling flush.

What neighbors say about our tankless water heater installation work

Converted us from a 40-gallon tank. They upsized the gas line and pulled the permit without me having to ask. Two showers at once now with no drop.

Explained why the cheaper unit another company quoted would have been undersized for our house. Glad I listened.

Clean install, labeled valves, and he walked me through the annual flush so I can do it myself.
